This is a common problem for beginners, opening by someone scenes. As you described, the light sources are, but they can not be seen. The first thing that comes to mind is to make Unhide All. But it does not help. The fact that, usually, so behave in a group of objects that are hidden in the Hide By Category rollout tab Display (monitor icon) on the 3ds Max toolbar. This scroll allows you to hide entire categories of objects with a single click, and vice versa. As can be seen in the book, there are different categories of objects, this figure primitives, lights, cameras, and other helpers, including custom 🙂 This is you and there - included a check mark in front of Lights, which means that all lajty in the scene will be hidden . Take out a check or just press the button next to None - all the objects in the scene will become visible.
